About Hannah Rickard
Hannah Rickard is a highly accomplished singer and violinist with extensive experience of live performance, studio recording, songwriting and teaching. Hannah has been played on BBC Radio 2, 3, 4 and BBC Radio 6 Introducing, as well as on a number of independent radio stations in the UK and abroad.
Graduating from the University of Liverpool with a First Class degree in Music and Popular Music in 2009, Hannah was granted a full AHRC scholarship to study for a postgraduate degree in Community Music from the University of York. Passing her MA with a merit in 2010, she returned to Newcastle in order to pursue her music career.
Since this time, Hannah has played in a number of bands, from bluegrass to blues-rock, and from jazz to rockabilly. It is her ability to diversify that has also made Hannah in demand as a session singer and musician, collaborating both live and in the studio with some of the North East’s best musicians, from pop/dance groups such as Softwhere, to the indie/folk leanings of artists such as Ben Blance and James Allan & Co. As well as this, Hannah is also in demand as a songwriter, and has written songs for such bands as The Narrators and her family band, the Outfit, as well as for numerous other projects.
Most notable, perhaps, is her involvement in Kathryn Tickell’s “Northumbrian Voices”, a show that blends Northumbrian folk music together with song and spoken word. With a live album of the show released last year, and with three UK tours already completed, 2013 will also see the show taken to Europe.
Hannah is also committed to her own music projects, and has played at some of the UK’s biggest festivals, including Celtic Connections, Towersey Folk Festival, Maverick Festival and the SummerTyne Americana Festival. She currently plays with the country/swing/rockabilly group The Honey Bop Trio, and a new, indie/folk group The Gathering Sky. Hannah is also currently recording an album in London, to be released in Summer 2013.
Despite her busy touring, writing and recording schedule, Hannah also has a passion for teaching and workshop leading. Fully CRB checked and with full public liability insurance, Hannah enjoys the opportunity to share with others her love of music, from beginner to advanced, and from any age and musical background.
